It’s summer in southwest Florida which means it’s….HOT! Like, hot, hot, hot! Oh, and humid too. So we have just been staying inside all the time because…well, it’s hot. Finally I decided it’s time to get out. There had to be ways to be outside in the summer right? I came up with this list of 5 ways to stay cool and hydrated in southwest Florida:
You have to drink lots of water. I am going to sound like a horrible parent, but I seriously forget to keep the kids hydrated because I forget to drink water myself. So I have to remind myself a lot to give the kids drinks and I needed something to put water in when we are out and about. I am excited to announce that I am now working as a Nuby Blogger Parent so I was able to review these great water canteens from Nuby! They are so cute!
These Flip It canteens are perfect for kindergarten too. Each student needs to bring a water bottle each day to school to have on their desks and these Nuby Thirsty Kids Flip It canteens are perfect for that. We take them everywhere with us! They are no-spill when the cover is closed, they have these really cool silicone bands for easy gripping, and most importantly you can find them at Target! As you can see, my kiddos love them!
We love swimming! It’s a great way to be outside and stay cool. Check out this big list of pools in southwest Florida.
3. Get out of the house but stay indoors
There is so much to do indoors in southwest Florida. There are free things like mall play places and there are also lots of jumping zones like SkyZone (Sarasota and Fort Myers) and Jumping Jacks (in Fort Myers). They also have great movie deals in the summer for kids! Get a list of free or cheap movies for kids in southwest Florida here.
4. Indoor Playdates
My kids love playing with other kids! They love having cousins and friends over or going to other people’s houses to play. So we set up play dates with friends and family so that the adults can chat and the kids can play! In the summer, we just hang out at each other’s houses because it is so hot outside. This is great because they get new interaction with kids and toys!
5. The Beach!
We love going to the beach particularly in the evening because it’s cooler and we can catch the sunset. But also, there is a nice breeze on the beach and we can just hang out in the water and stay cool. Get a list of our top favorite beaches in southwest Florida here.
I hope this helps give you some ideas on fun ways to stay cool AND HYDRATED this summer! If you have other ideas let me know in the comments below!
